What is Ableton — and what do I do with it? For anyone who doesn't know it from the studio: Ableton is the software that ties together almost everything on a modern live stage that doesn't come straight from an instrument. In my rig it runs:
So nothing falls apart on stage, the whole thing runs twice over: two MacBook M1 Pro (Ableton Live 11 & 12, AbleSet, PlayAUDIO12). If one machine fails, the second takes over without a gap — the show just keeps going.

Before a show goes on stage, it has to work as a band. The live set gets built from the studio productions and rehearsed until it runs. That's exactly what my studio in Cologne's Südstadt is for.
There are two rooms: one 30 m², one 50 m². In both, up to eight musicians get their own stereo in-ear monitoring, and on request I record the rehearsal multitrack. For the breaks in between there's a lounge area with Wi-Fi, coffee, tea and cold drinks.
The 50 m² room also has a separate control room, where the sound engineer sits apart from the band. With space for external production gear, it also works for production rehearsals of larger acts.
